Born in 1975, Sunil Tambe completed an Art Teachers Diploma from Pragat Kala Mahavidyalaya, Ahmednagar, in 1994. Moving to Pune after that, he received a Government Diploma in Fine Art with a specialization in painting from the Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya there in 1997. In addition, he also completed a Diploma in Art Education from the Sir J J. School of Art, Mumbai, in 1998, and briefly served as a lecturer at the SSVPS School of Art, Dhule.
Tambe’s figurative work is sensuous, with graceful female silhouettes populating his canvases. Working with black figures on vividly colored grounds, Tambe creates striking contrasts on his surfaces. The artist also successfully represents the exceptional bond between mother and child in some of his works.
