Vivek Kumavat, originally from Rajasthan, blends traditional Indian themes with contemporary artistic elements in his work. A graduate of the prestigious Sir J.J. School of Arts (2001) and with an A.T.D. from Khiroda, Jalgaon (1996), his art often reflects the cultural richness of his hometown. Known for his vibrant use of color and monochrome, Kumavat’s signature subject is the Nandi bull calf, painted in silhouette against vibrant, tapestry-like backgrounds. He then fills the bull’s form with intricate depictions of mythological events, merging simplicity and complexity. His works have been showcased in over 20 solo and group exhibitions, both in India and internationally, including at prominent galleries like J.J. Applied Art Gallery, Mumbai, and Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, as well as international venues in Dubai and Singapore. His art has earned recognition for its detailed, vibrant depictions of Indian folklore, often blending traditional techniques with modern compositions. Recently, Kumavat has ventured into black-and-white paintings, focusing on the Nandi bull’s face and upper body, adorned with sketches of Hindu gods. This fusion of color, texture, and mythological storytelling highlights his commitment to preserving Indian tradition while innovating within contemporary art.
