Umakant Tawde

Umakant Tawde (born 1981) is a contemporary Indian painter known for his exploration of peace, harmony, and unity through symbolism and vivid representations. His work, especially in his upcoming series Manifesto Peace, combines traditional canvas techniques with modern digital effects and graphic design. Tawde’s figurative paintings often feature expressive, monk-like figures engaged in meditative relationships with their surroundings. His canvases, dominated by dark browns and ochres, occasionally reveal bright splashes of color, reflecting the deep emotional range of his subjects.

Initially focused on Buddhist iconography as a way to process personal challenges and find tranquility amidst Mumbai’s chaos, Tawde’s work has expanded to include hyperrealistic depictions of Tibetan monastic life, inspired by his visit to Bylakuppe, a Tibetan settlement. His paintings incorporate spiritual symbols like the prayer wheel, prayer flags, and the lotus, emphasizing a journey of inner peace. A graduate of Mumbai’s Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Arts, Tawde has showcased his work in solo exhibitions in India, Singapore, and Dubai.
